General Questions

No. At this time, MediaWidget only works with Windows-formatted iPods.
MediaWidget will not run on Macintosh computers, unless you are running it from Windows on the Mac using either BootCamp, Parallels, or VMWare Fusion. Even then, it will only work with Windows-formatted iPods, so you might need to reformat your iPod for it to read it.
Yes! This is one of the problems MediaWidget was specifically designed to address.
MediaWidget does support the iPhone and iPod Touch, but due to restrictions imposed by Apple, it can currently only copy music and other content from the device to your PC. Transferring content from the PC to the iPhone and iPod Touch is not currently supported.
Not directly, but you can accomplish this using MediaWidget by transferring all the content on the source iPod either to iTunes or to a folder on your PC. You can then either use iTunes or MediaWidget to transfer this content to the destination iPod.
MediaWidget supports transferring photos as part of the backup and restore functionality, but cannot transfer individual photos to or from the iPod.

Using MediaWidget

  1. Ensure that you are using an iPod which was formatted using a Windows version of iTunes. MediaWidget cannot currently read Mac formatted iPods. If you think you have a Mac formatted iPod, it will be necessary to reformat in order for MediaWidget to be able to read it.
  2. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. To be safe, we generally recommend reinstalling iTunes from http://www.itunes.com if you are having problems.
  3. Close all applications and connect your iPod. If iTunes opens when you connect your iPod, close it. Then open MediaWidget.
  4. Sometimes the automated iPod configuration does not work. In these cases it is necessary to manually make the needed change. To do this, start iTunes and connect your iPod. In the options for your iPod, make sure that "Enable Disk Access" is checked. Doing this will ensure that MediaWidget can access your iPod.
  5. If you are not doing so already, use a USB connection when connecting your iPod to your PC.
Try updating iTunes to the most recent version or reinstalling iTunes completely.
We have seen occasional issues with adding music directly to iTunes and are working on a resolution. In the mean time, you can use the Copy to PC option in MediaWidget. This will transfer the music on the iPod to the My Music folder on your PC. Once this is done, open iTunes and select Add Folder to iTunes Library from under the File menu and choose the My Music folder.
Photos are not saved to an iPod by default in iTunes. There is an option in iTunes to copy over full size images, but by default it will only transfer thumbnails/scaled down versions to your iPod, suitable for viewing on the smaller screen. If your photos are only stored in the scaled down format, they will appear low resolution when MediaWidget backs them up and you open them on the larger computer screen.
